From the Director:

Hello IOOS Community,

As we sign off for 2021, we bring you the holiday edition of the Eyes on the Ocean. Thank you to the elves for their creative writing. The Eyes on the Ocean newsletter is taking a break for the holidays. We will resume our regular production schedule of the newsletter in late January 2022.

The IOOS Office wishes everyone a happy and healthy holiday season and a very happy new year!

Best regards,

“A Holly, Jolly IOOS”
(to the tune of “A Holly, Jolly Christmas”)

Have a holly, jolly IOOS
It’s the best obs system here
I don’t know how waves will go
But things are looking clear
 ---
Have a holly, jolly IOOS
And when you sail down the sea
Say hello to buoys you know
And sensors in the deep
---
Oh, ho currents do flow
All around the shore
HF radars grow
Measuring once more
---
Have a holly, jolly IOOS
And in case you didn’t hear
Oh by golly have a holly, jolly IOOS
this year
---
Have a holly, jolly IOOS
We’ve got QARTOD and DMAC
We all know how the data flows
Modeling right on track
 ---
Have a holly, jolly IOOS
There are gliders for the storm
I don’t know if winds will blow
But water’s nice and warm
 ---
Oh, ho the news did crow
An enterprise study
Eight billion dollars flow
For ocean companies
 ---
Have a holly, jolly IOOS
And in case you didn't hear
Oh by golly have a holly, jolly IOOS
This year
---
Have a holly, jolly IOOS
With marine technology
Yes, we know what algae grows
That blooms in the sea
 ---
Have a holly, jolly IOOS
There is life out in the deep
Say hello to bio info
And biodiv’rsity
 ---
Oh, ho the boats do row
All around the lake
What’s lurking deep below
Maybe something great
---
Have a holly, jolly IOOS
And in case you didn't hear
Oh by golly have a holly, jolly IOOS
This year!
