The ocean covers more than 70% of the planet and contains an abundance of ecosystems teeming with life. The U.S. Marine Biodiversity Observation Network (MBON) — a National Oceanographic Partnership Program initiative led by, NOAA with NASA, Office of Naval Research, and BOEM since 2014 — coordinates across sectors to characterize biodiversity in the ocean, and to understand shifts and changes within ocean ecosystems.
